The Giant Jelly Bean Jar

Today was our book club meeting. When I got there, everyone was already eating. Well not everyone. Some girls came in after me. We were just a little late. They girls there were enjoying bagels, chocolate chip muffins and hot chocolate!! My favorite. After we were done eating, we had our discussion on the book.

This month's discussion was lead by Mrs. Graf and her daughter Abigail. Abigail did an excellent job making sure we all picked a name out of the bag and our question to answer. The book had a lot of riddles and we remembered them. We talked about our favorite flavored jelly bean and if we could make one what would it be. Kristina said "hot chocolate of course". All the girls laughed!! We love hot chocolate!

After our discussion we returned to the tables to create our own jelly bean jars. We got to decorate them and each one of us had enough jelly beans to last us to the next book club meeting. We get to eat 1 a day and when we are finished, it will the day of the book club meeting.

We were asked to bring a riddle. And the girls with the funniest or cleverist riddle would win the GIANT JELLY BEAN JAR. Our guest judges were 2 brothers who were hanging out with their sister for the morning. Kimberly won the contest. Her riddle was: "What is the differnce between a duck and George Washington? A duck's bill is on his face and George Washington's face is on a bill."

Can't wait to have our discussion and complete our craft next month!

My favorite part of the book was when the sister stepped on her brother's foot! I laughed and laughed and thought about doing that to my 2 brothers! I thought she was a good big sister to help her brother like she did. It was a good book to read. by Selah

Sophia's Review

I loved this book. I really liked when Ben's sister Jill stepped on his toes -- I thought it was very funny. My favorite riddle was the banana riddle, and that Jill knew that answer. I liked when the other boy won with the pizza riddle. I also liked that Ben won the big jar of jellybeans at the end. I liked that everyone won. If I were to change the ending of this story I would like to have the banana riddle at the end.

Eliana's Review

I like this book because I like Jelly beans. I think Jill was a nice big sister and I want to be like that to my little sister. My favourite part of the story was when Ben said "oh nuts!" and remembered the answer was peanut butter. The funniest part of the story was when Jill stepped on Ben's toe to help him remember the answer. I would tell my friends that this is a nice, happy book to read. My favourite riddle was when the answer was 'banana'!

Kristina's Review - The Giant Jelly Bean Jar

"Jelly beans are soooo good!!!!! I like them. I was sorry that Ben didn't speak up each week so he could win the giant jelly bean jar. But I became happy when he won at the end of the book because his sister helped him to speak up for himself. I am just like Ben's sister. I have a little brother that I help too. The funniest part was when Ben's sister stepped on his foot and he yelled out the answer! I thought the book was a nice book.".
