First Book Discussion!

Yeah! School Girls Read Book Club had their first book discussion. Despite the snow storm for the last two days, we were able to meet. We thanked God for allowing us to meet in our opening prayer.

For our first discussion I think it went great! First, each girl had to pick a question out of the bag. Then, they had to read it and answer the question. This way, we all had a chance to talk. Our discussion leader, Amelia Bedelia (it was really Ms. Patricia) lead the discussion. She would asked us additional questions based upon the answers each of us girls gave.

After our discussion, we talked a little about idioms and how Amelia Bedelia's book was full of them. Ms. Patricia showed us different illustrations of idioms and then we all got a chance to pick an idiom out of a bag and draw our own illustrations. Ms. Nicole is going to place them into a nice scrapbook and we will have the "SGR Book of Idioms".

Next, each girl was given a goodie bag. This months' goodie included our very own Amelia Bedelia apron. All of us girls really like them. A special thank you to Ms. Nicole for making our aprons.

Oh, I forgot. We had fresh bagels, muffins, hot chocolate and juice! And of course, an Amelia Bedelia's favorite -- Lemon-Meringue Pie! Yummy!

Check our our video below. We really had a great time!

Kristina's Review - Amelia Bedelia

"I really liked the book because Amelia did some really funny stuff. Amelia Bedelia is a lady who does what she is told. One of the things she was told to do was to change the bathrooom towels. She did just that by cutting them up instead of taking them down and putting up new ones. One of the funniest things I like that she did was stuff a slice of pie into Mr. Rogers mouth and then he said, "I don't care what she did. I like her lemon-meringue pie"!

Book Recommendation: YES!

Organizational Meeting

The first meeting of the School Girls Read Book Club was Saturday, January 30th at the Old Bridge Public Library. There were 11 girls (and their mothers) in grades K through 3rd. The girls were greeted by hosts, Kristina, grade 1 and her mother, Patricia. Upon their arrival, each girl was given a goodie bag and their mothers a folder with information about the book club.

The SGR meeting was opened with prayer. Followed by introductions from all. After the introductions, the agenda for the meeting was read. The girls went off to work on a craft project while the mothers discussed the organization of the book club. All were brought back together to enjoy snacks and answer questions that the girls had. The meeting was closed with a prayer.

The book club was well received by the girls and their mothers. Everyone is looking forward to the first book discussion in February.
